Hope without Optimism

A loaded interview of Chris Hedges:

(Note: if the video to which this article links gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “[44] Chris Hedges & Writer for The Daily Show J.R. Havlan!”)

Commentary:

Gist:

  1. The power of the Deep State, continuing the repeal of civil and human rights through both the Bush and Obama years and poised to accelerate.
  2. How the corporate lamestream media bolstered Trump with 5 billion dollars of free airtime while they marginalized Bernie Sanders with 23 times less coverage even though he was the most valid and most popular candidate and thus far more newsworthy than the corporate darling Shillary or the scandals monger Trump aired purely for titillation.
  3. Concluding at 13 minutes and 20 seconds into this video clip: We must fight not for a glorious victory but because there is no alternative, since otherwise the end of civil society or even the human species itself is certain. False optimism can lull us into passivity. We cannot afford to give up hope, but we must cling to it without false confidence. We have to stand up even though we might fail, simply because there is no alternative when our lives are threatened. My life has already been ruined, which is what motivates me to at least try and make a meaningful contribution towards preventing the same fate for some of my fellow humans (mostly future generations and those who are still young).
