News from California: the people-crushing corporate lobbyist, Eric Bauman, who took $100,000 from Big Pharma to prevent lower medication prices, has been announced the new chair of the California “Democratic” Party (moved up from vice chair). This is despite the celebrations earlier this year over anti-corporate (Bernie-aligned) party members electing a majority of the party’s electable delegates and their expecting to vote a people’s representative into the office of state party chair. It turns out, that California’s “Democratic” Party has its own version of superdelegates. There is also suspicion of a false vote count. Looks familiar, doesn’t it?
This development confirms my doubts back in April that the initial successes in reforming the DP which had been reported by then would be able to go much further, even as bringing this kind of pressure to bear was still worthwhile.
Before I write a few more words on this, here is Jimmy Dore’s video on the same topic:
(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “CA Dem Party Tells Progressives “Shut The F*ck Up””)
And now for the rest:
To summarize the events, the corporate-bribed party establishment in California just defeated democracy within the party in order to block democracy in government, just as happened on the national level (i.e. in many states, including California!) in the presidential 2016 primaries. Also, once again, there is cause to suspect false vote counting on top of other election rigging techniques such as superdelegates. (The contender, Kimberly Harris — not to confuse with corporate company woman Kamala Harris — is contesting the vote count.)
Not that Kimberly Harris is perfect, by the way. She was a Hillary supporter last year. This, in itself, makes me think that the rigging goes even deeper than otherwise reported. When the kinds of people who want true change away from our despotic corporate state cannot even get a fully repesentative candidate to line up behind, leave alone elect her, then how well is the effort to reform the DP really going?
Not so well, it seems. Remember the installment of bankster crony Tom Perez as the new party chairman? Same story.
Reform-minded organizations like the Justice Democrats, Our Revolution, and Brand New Congress, seem to be reaching their limits already.
Hence, Draft Bernie’s approach to start a new party instead, a truly democratic one, based on the reasoning that – laborious though it is – this strategy ultimately has a better chance of success because the DP’s defenses against reform are too formidable, seems to bear out. Bernie, what do you think? Is it clear enough now that reforming the DP will fail? Has the time come to give birth to a new party?
Here is Draft Bernie’s report on this latest California debacle: Corporate Lobbyist Becomes Chair of the California Democratic Party, Confirms the Need for a New People’s Party
Very important in all of this: the people’s candidates can never win (in any party) unless we fight election rigging! It must stop. And here, once again, is an opportunity to expose it and go after the riggers. This is one of our most important battle fronts, not to be overlooked over all the other outrage!
