Manifesto of the Elders (addressed to the Young)

Some people, when they begin to realize how long and deeply the cruel corruption of our socio-economic and political system has been entrenched, feel like there is no more hope.

My response to that is this declaration:

Manifesto of the Elders

When you have been crushed as much as many of us, there is no point in giving up. We have one thing left to do on our way out of this hell called “life”, and that is to do our part so that future generations won’t have to suffer like us. While the millennials are beginning to revolt because they see no viable future ahead of them unless they upturn the insanity of the system, those of us who were broken decades earlier and robbed of all hope for ourselves have one last thing to do.

My dear young folks, despite of what you have been told about comparatively privileged baby boomers, and despite of their immediately following generations being excluded from all conversation as if they didn’t exist, you are not alone in this fight for your future. Reach out to those who struggle in the descending darkness of the advancing years, and you may be surprised. They may be too sick to march in the streets, too busy caring for their dying family members or struggling to make it from day to day under the hammers of age discrimination and system rigging to easily show up in meetings or online, but if you form a People’s Party (or Coalition) and reach out to the older disenfranchised, showing that you see their unmet needs and pain, and you offer change, you could see a flood coming. Some of us may be too weak to wield pitchforks, but we can shield you with our worthless bodies and add our votes to landslide elections. We have experiences and stories to share. We may be invisible, but we are here… for a little bit longer.

You have the energy. We have the experience. You have the aspirations. We have the terminal resolution. Imagine the power of such an allegiance.

Ending Note: To get the word out, please widely share links to these posts. You can also help in other ways (including much needed financial support). And don’t forget to sign up for notifications! Together can we change this messed-up world.
