I. Society: The Crippling Corporate Culture
Here is an old, yet outstanding, speech by Chris Hedges. It’s from April 3, 2013. If you are certain to have heard most of this before and are short on time, you may fast forward to 1:05:32 where his wrap-up starts and hits hard: https://youtu.be/KJ9nvAX-S1g?t=3932 Otherwise, here the clip starts from the beginning:

II. Isms: Socialism vs Fascism
There is one part of this clip where the main points are summarized nicely. I have set this video sharing to start there (at 22:07 minutes in — of course, you can spool back to hear the full lecture):

Note: On one point I differ a little from Richard Wolff, namely in my view we have been having a special kind of fascism for some time already. Especially many scary overlaps with past fascist regimes in other countries since the Bush-Cheney regime came into power in 2001: a very corporate state (that part started even long before that regime), kicking to the curb of our constitutional rights , manipulated/rigged elections, torture, legalization of state forces disappearing dissidents, rising police brutality and criminalization of street protests, an explosion of blatantly for-profit wars, jingoist nationalism, growing minority-scapegoating, false flag events to justify all these travesties, the mass media in cahoots, and so forth.
III. Corruption: Law Run by the Thieves – The ‘Big Four’
Campaign financing isn’t the only way by which the rich oligarchs and their corporations put governments in their pockets and have our laws written on their behalf, all at our expense. Here is another way they do it, one that works equally well in countries where – contrary to the U.S. – political bribery under the mask of money-as-free-speech has not been legalized by their supreme courts. Naturally, this is also applied within our borders, except here our media may not dare to tell us about it:

Note: When I searched for more reports on “The Big Four”, almost all I got were dumb links to band performances, TV shows or similar trivia. When I included one of their names (KPMG), I was showered with links to videos talking about how to successfully apply to work there! Ugh! What a blatant indication of how money (with its two sides of greed and despair) rules us.
IV. Revolutionary History: What to learn from the Bolsheviks
The Soviet Revolution apparently was a set of three revolutions (military, rural, and urban-labor) and a later usurpation. It shows how chaotic and multi-faceted revolutions tend to be and how they can follow down a problematic path. Also interesting are comparisons to our (first) American Revolution headed by slave-holders and married to genocide of the Native Americans, for example. In other words, there are always good and bad forces at play and a lot of confusion and odd compromises, as well:

Note: Quite scary, btw, are the fascist and antisemitic comments that bombarded this video on Youtube replacing historic analysis from which we can learn with roaring hate speech.
V. Unions: Top Middle-Class Unionizing Against its Decline
(Note: If the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Chicago Symphony Goes On Strike!”)
VI. News: U.S. Election Rigging, Venezuela, Yellow Vests, Social Media Censorship

VII. Media: ‘The Cleaners’ Who Scrub Social Media
Bean wondering what your next job might be when your current one is automated away? You know, a human-only job?
(Note: If the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: ”‘The Cleaners’ Who Scrub Social Media”)
Note: You can dig a little deeper with this brief clip, but be warned… it could be painful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDkhXNpM5QM
VIII. World: U.S. Sabotage of Venezuelan Power Plant?
(Note: If the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “How The U.S. Secretly Cut Venezuela’s Power”)
IX. Capitalism: Greed Ends the Age of Antibiotics
Besides the growing climate crisis we also am headed into mass death from antibiotic-resistant bacteria created and spread by criminally acting profit-seeking mass-lifestock-breeding. It’s what we get when profit beats all other considerations:

Comment: As we can see, global capitalism makes public health difficult even for an advanced country like our neighbor Canada, not only backward countries like our own. (Yes, you heard me right. When it comes to healthcare, our beloved America is very backward, the tail light of the First World.)
X. Change: Government is a Tool

XI. Democracy: Our Fraudulent Elections
Pretty nice and quick summary of many of the high points in our 2016 and 2018 election theft and what we can expect in 2020 (and, OMG, no Russiaaaaaaahhhhhhh!):

XII. A Good Life for All: The Citizen Dividend (a.k.a. UBI)
… or, as this moneycrat calls it, a Freedom Dividend:
(Note: If the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Give People Free Money! Says Andrew Yang”)
Comment: As for the financing, sure, tax-evading giant corporations must be taxed; but as I have been pointing oiut, we must also shift to capping excessive wealth and income via a moneytocracy tax, in order to remove excessive power from the few and Big Money from politics. That alone would pay for the Citizen Dividend (a.k.a. Social Security for All) and Medicare for All (the latter then paying for itself by reducing our excessive insurance premiums and bloated healthcare costs).
Note: The interview with Andrew Yang continues here.
Note on size: I am currently aiming at downsizing my Video Weekend posts because I lose much time and energy in continued-education courses that I am forced to take to try and resurrect a former (totally non-journalistic) career and arrive at a livable income level. My blog simply has too few free subscribers (and hardly any financial supporters, either) to justify the large amount of hours I have kept spending on it. Unfortunately, I do need to earn a living and find some time for sleep, too. Still, I get re-motivated when you subscribe because you like my posts. And, of course, you can always unsubscribe if you lose your interest in them. I am not stopping to blog just yet. And luckily there are other independent journalists out there for you, most of them likewise struggling to make ends meet. Meanwhile, the establishment journalists are beholden to the corporate money that pays them. So don’t trust these puppets too much. Wish me luck. I wish it to you. Power to the people. Let’s reclaim that power by relearning solidarity.
