1. Great Ralph Nader Interview on How to Make Democracy Work ***

How to Fix Democracy | Ralph Nader ~ Bertelsmann Foundation (Oct 25, 2019)

  • Note: Cool term brought up by Ralph Nader: political economy. Quote: “Reforming the economic system requires reforming the political system. For example, … if you want full Medicare for All with free choice of doctor and hospital, you have to go through Congress. If you want to crack down on the ripoffs of … consumers [and workers] in all kinds of ways you have to go through the political gateways. So they go together. That’s why we like to use the word political economy.”
  • Another cool quote (dealing with the distracting identity politics that keeps the People divided on purpose by the rich lords): “Look, all of you – regardless of your identity – are being underpaid. You’re being under-insured. You’re being disrespected. You’re being excluded. And you’re being taken away from your own property…”
  • About (near)-monopolies: “In the 1970s, if four companies controlled an industry at the level of 70%, that would be a signal for any trust action. But what do you think the advertising market that’s controlled by Google and Facebook is? … It’s 85%.”
  • And Nader’s suggestion how to have a real democracy (government controlled from the people, not a rich oligarchy, by organizing votes at the bottom outside corrupt political parties, holding the parliamentarians accountable to us): “Democracies are produced in moments of time. They have to be refurbished. [Why weren’t our democracies sufficiently refurbished?] Because the masses of people take these advances for granted and they don’t get engaged from the local to the national level. They’re not vigilant. They’re not watchdogs. So it isn’t so much the system you can have [that keeps democracy healthy and working]. It’s the engagement that’s absolutely key. For example, we’re supposed to have the right to vote…, but the actual voting process is obstructed differently in different countries because the people allow it to happen. … Congress in our system is the smallest branch of government, by far the largest powerful branch of government, and we know [the Congress members’] names. There are only 535 of them, a hundred senators and 435 representatives. And you know what? There’s something they want more than money from special interests. They want your vote. So, if we don’t organize the vote back home and have summons where we summon the senators and representatives to our town meetings and our agenda, we are going to delegate our power under the Constitution to 535 people who will sell it to Wall Street and other commercial interests and turn the government into a corporate state against its own people.”
  • Nader also proposes that people-supporting Congress members (like we hoped folks like AOC to be) should connect with national and local citizen groups (as opposed to corporations and their corrupt lobbyists) to know what to push for and do and get their potential re-election enabled by the citizen groups rather than expensive campaign financing (if I understood him correctly – and I agree; for example, the victorious Bolivian people’s party won big again and again and even against the fascist dictatorship installed 2019 by a military coup because it was never an isolated party but directly connected with people movements, even requiring that all their political candidates have already been movement activists, and the movements forcing an election with deeds like national road blocks when the dictatorship kept indefinitely “postponing” it).
  • And this remark: “The most powerful citizen lobbies in the United States don’t mess around with demonstrations or protests or emails. It’s eyeball-to-eyeball, a hundred senators and 435 members of the house. That’s why the NRA is so powerful.”

And a nice end at 20:40, pointing out the need and chance for people to organize for the better country and world we want, to implement things like universal healthcare and also curtail greed and concentrated power!

2. Media/Humor: Ridiculous Propaganda (Treachery Really) by ALL Mass Media

… not just Fox News. All mass media play with us. Main example given: MSNBC (esp. Rachel Mad, but also the other puppets there). No matter what BS those highly bribed narcissist media puppets tell us, utterly idiotic and soon proven utterly wrong, they get kept in those jobs and paid common annual incomes per day! Quite frankly, IMHO, rather than imprisoning a non-sentenced Australian journalist who has never lived and worked in the U.S. with American spy charges in Not-so-Great Britain, our American legal system should charge these American media puppets with treason.

3. How the Pandemic Revealed the Cracks in our System

Set up to start where to me this report gets the most interesting, at 8:42 (before this comes old stuff like oil and food industry that most of us probably know well enough, plus that millennial whining I am no fan of because it results in hiding the enormous ruined lives of so many older people we are never supposed to hear about — but this later part of the report is really sharp and noteworthy, including important stats and analysis):

Why The United States Can’t Handle Crises ~ Second Thought (Mar 12, 2021)

4. Another Cool Chris Hedges Interview **

Another cool interview of Chris Hedges, set here to start where it hits down hard upon the corrupt betrayals of our ‘elites’, the need for a people’s party and our current flow down the drain towards Nazi-like fascism:

Politics is a Game of Fear: The Chris Hedges Interview ~ Bad Faith (Mar 18, 2021)

And a meaningful quote from a much later stage in this interview at 59:25:

“Demagogues are revered because they flout the conventions, they’re outrageous, they’re crude, they claim omnipotence, but most importantly they call for war against the traditional elites that have betrayed the population. And … the refusal on the part of the democratic party to address the social inequities means that this rage is not only not going to go away, it’s going to grow. And my biggest fear … is that the only thing that’s happening now is they’re fertilizing the ground for a demagogue and an authoritarian system at which point there’s no turning back.”

5. China & Russia Political Theater to Distract from Homemade Inequity

If time is short, you can jump to the final summary at 6:44 (missing out over the history review).

6. Another Review (and Interview) of NY’s Corporate Prisoner

The human rights lawyer, Steven Donziger, who represented the indigenous people of Ecuador and since has been held under house arrest in New York by Chevron’s bought corrupt judge (an event presented here at least two times already, I think – still, it may interest you today again or for the first time; it definitely is something to know about).

Corporate Prisoner ~ Steven Donziger interviewed on Ralph Nader Radio Hour (Mar 27, 2021)

7. Pretty Good Robert Reich Interview in 2018 about the Common Good

Set to start at 15:46 where the really good parts start, talking about the corruption in politics, the beat-backs several times in out history with a focus on the common good without which there is no healthy society, and also how our immigrant nation has always benefited from immigrants (and still does):

8. The Place of Police in Our Dungheap Society

Starting where the video comes to the point (not perfectly, but giving some insight — BTW, with “order” this lady seems to refer to our system or status quo):

Police Union Defends CONVICTED COPS Keeping Their Jobs ~ The Real News Network (Mar 19, 2021)

Note: And yes, in the previous section of this report there is talk about police officers being left in their police jobs after being committed of crimes. Important stuff, but that section of the report is unfortunately not very clear. (for example, they don’t say of what crime convictions they speak or which bill, and there is a lot of muffling making it hard to hear some stuff well; one good and very true point made fairly well despite hard audibility was that constantly treating innocent children and youngsters like criminals pushes them to become unlawful — of course it does! So, white ‘elites’ who think badly of black and other colored Americans raised in police-terrorized slums should maybe give this some thought)

9. False Policing Filmed

Obviously we have numerous police officers and sheriffs who are not qualified to protect the public, doing the exact opposite: terrorizing the public. What a joke: to brutalize and potentially kill plus rob of $5000 a working taxi driver for standing on a non-parking spot. (yes, standing there waiting for his needful passenger, not actually parked; INHO parking requires getting out of one’s car, which btw this sheriff or deputy forced him to)

This bodycam footage reveals all that is WRONG with policing ~ The Real News Network with Taya Graham (Mar 26, 2021)

Really disgusting such a police officer or sheriff/deputy. The taxi driver wasn’t parked. He was merely technically standing. All the cop had to do was tell him to move, and a the worst give him a ticket for not following this demand. Totally overblown to brutalize such a man. We definitely need a police accountability system to remove such paid terrorists from law enforcing institutions that have become a legalized version of the mafia when not held accountable and permitted to enrich themselves and their members through their legally approved racketeering. As a video watcher commented correctly: “All these massive amounts of cops. They all have to find ‘crime’ to justify their jobs. And if they cant find any, they will have to make some up.” And I fully agree with another comment: “This cop should be fired and JAILED!” (and let’s add: fired with no pension and charged with assault!)

10. Solidarity to Remind the Top of Humanity’s Existence

Skipping ahead (through a discussion I found overly detailed for the interest of outside people) to the great final statement by Jennifer Bates at 22:35:

Bigger than Bessemer: Workers EVERYWHERE must stand up & fight back ~ The Real News Network (Mar 25, 2021)

11. State Movement(s) for Universal Healthcare

Activist people’s movements are vital to repair, rescue, and make fully great our nation (and as other videos in this weekend collection point out, they are vital to fix our undermined democracy). Luckily, some are forming.

#2 (some in between talks I had no time to listen to)

12. COVID: Handled So Much Better in Asia

… the solidarity mindset, the respect for others, the willingness to struggle through stuff together being necessary for handling pandemics well. (also discussed: the lack of organized people movements plus disregard of working people by the ruling lords driving us deeper and deeper into trouble)
