I. Midterm Election 2018

Too many losses. A few (way too few) progressive wins (only 2 new progressives in Congress):

Are Democratic Socialists and Social Democrats the Same?

Lately we hear a lot of Democratic Socialists, and people wonder what the term means. Well, there are two major interpretations.   Continue reading “Are Democratic Socialists and Social Democrats the Same?”

Workplace Democracy (Jimmy Dore & Richard Wolff)

A co-op economy is a great alternative to our American one-share-one-vote anti-democracy.

Jimmy Dore held a delightful interview with Richard Wolff, nicely describing the core-problem of our economy and a bloodless, peaceful way out of it and towards democracy, first in the workplace and then in the public sphere (once the plutocratic oligarchs – our money aristocracy – have had the rug pulled out from under them).

Our current corporate economy gives 1% of people nearly all the wealth (including three quarters of all company shares) and along with it all the decision-making power not only in the business sector but the public sector as well. In contrast, when workers own their companies, when they can democratically make all the important decisions (whether or not to move their jobs to China, for example), when they can hire and fire the managers who work for them rather than the other way round, then we not only walk into our places of work with our heads held high (being co-owners), but our daily work lives are democratic in nature with important decisions reflecting our needs and wishes, and so can be the country when it is resting on a truly democratic base rather than the rotten plutocratic base we currently have.

And the best news is that the conversion from the plutocratic economy to a democratic worker co-op economy has already begun. Here is the sweet interview:

Note: Support at the national level, such as offered by Jeremy Corbyn in he UK, would of course accelerate and strengthen the economic conversion, as would putting a stop to corporate welfare and exclusive tax gifts to the rich. Hence worker co-op friendly policies should be on the People’s Platform.

Amazing Speech about our Economic and Political Mess (and How to Fix it)

Here is the most amazing speech exposing the root of and cure for all our man-made problems in politics and the economy. Inequality, crushing debt, money in politics, devastating decisions — all derive from this root cause and can be fixed as described. This is the education of a lifetime for you or any confused people you know. The video is a must-see for every responsible person. Therefore I will point to it repeatedly, so you don’t miss it:

The Must-See Video of Your Life: Now You Will Know What’s Wrong in the U.S. and How to Fix It

Of all the politically relevant videos I have watched, this must be the best. If you don’t yet understand the root of all our problems, after this video you will, and you will have a powerful weapon in your arsenal to bring others into the light. This is the education of a lifetime. What better time than a bit of Sunday to invest one hour of your time to get the education of a lifetime?

In this video, Richard Wolff, whose information-packed eight minutes I shared with you yesterday, gives a clear and cogent critique of our awful current system and a clear cogent alternative. To summarize, currently, we leave the power of decision-making to a handful of self-serving people in the private sector who then throw us under the bus. The solution: make the economic system as democratic as we would like our political system to be. This will end the plutocracy and its constant gnawing on whatever democratic political institutions and justice-minded laws we erect.

What I have just described would be sufficient reason to mark this video as a must-see. But there is a lot more, too much to summarize briefly. You really are best off to watch the video (or listen to it) yourself:

If you don’t have the time to watch this hugely informative speech by seasoned economist Richard Wolff right now, then do spend a minute reading my below commentary: Continue reading “The Must-See Video of Your Life: Now You Will Know What’s Wrong in the U.S. and How to Fix It”

You’re Socialist and You Don’t Even Know It

Cenk Uygur recently made a good point in reference to a study which showed that Americans overwhelmingly would prefer a quasi-socialist wealth and income distribution and concluded saying:“You’re Socialist and You Don’t Even Know It.” The point: even though this is what most of us want, many of us don’t realize it, continuing instead to chant the “free market” love song while actually not meaning it. This is a big reason why we must have more discussion about economic inequality. It gives those who haven’t thought things through a chance to do so.

The point I am highlighting here starts 4 minutes 40 seconds into the video clip:

How Useful Are Our Isms? (PS)

Clarifying some buzz words and political false flag trickery.

Quotes:

“Lately, older isms have been dug up out of the grave of history. Capitalism and socialism are floating around in conversations again, as well as communism out of the mouths of those who wish to disparage socialism. What exactly do these terms mean and what use do they have?”

“This trick was easy to pull off, …”

“We, the working people of America and the world, would do much better to focus on the issues of a corrupt upper class co-opting our governments and squeezing the life out of our economies and our planet in their greedy pursuit of ever more wealth until nothing is left for anybody else to support their lives.”

How Things Are in Other Countries

Example: France, so very different from the U.S. … Not all is perfect there. They make mistakes. Yet, a 35 hour work week, long paid vacations, and the best healthcare in the world (at half the price of U.S. healthcare)… in THIS universe??? An entirely different way is apparently possible. Watch and be amazed.

Conclusion: All these things are easily possible when we don’t shunt the lion’s share of our mutually generated wealth to the 1%. It’s the robbery by the 1% which is preventing us from having a good life.
