Video Weekend 11-04-2017 (7 + 1 Videos)

This weekend’s mix of enlightening videos, starring Jimmy Dore, Chris Hedges, and David Graeber, focuses primarily on two topics: government (despotism vs democracy) and the economy:

Note: Somehow the announcement of this posting failed to go out yesterday. I have therefore just added one very entertaining video at the end here instead of making a new post out of it. It’s big fun! Skip to it if you watched the others yesterday.

I. “Democratic” Party Reform not Working (Jimmy Dore):

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Tulsi Gabbard Rips The DNC – Demands Change”)

Maybe Tulsi should dress in her uniform when she gives speeches. (and also stop being so polite)

II. The hill of the shining beacon has caved in (Jimmy Dore):

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “CIA Whistleblower Reveals CIA Still Torturing – Here’s How“)

III. The Silencing of Truth, Justice, and The People (Chris Hedges):

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “On Contact: The Silencing of the Left with Robert Scheer”)

The thing to realize for a lot of folks who have been raised to hate the “left” and self-identify as the “right” is that when you are against billionaire money in politics and for the needs and wishes of the people, you are actually “left” by the standard definition. The establishment has played a trick on you reversing the definitions of political labels, turning them on their heads, so that we, the people, fight each other over self identification, hating the other group for being our opposite when, for the most part, they are actually the same. So, if we can’t agree on the meanings of these labels, let’s drop them – they are only words, after all – and unite around the actual issues on which most of us agree, like a fair economy and functioning democracy where we all can have a good living and a voice in our public affairs.

Quote: “Everybody out there has a story of abuse.” So… maybe we should all become more willing to accept the grievances of others and commit to help one another?

IV. Ideal vs real vs underestimated economic inequality (in case I haven’t shared this before):

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “The collapse of the american dream – This will scare you”)

V. Money is not our limit (David Graeber):

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “David Graeber: debt and what the government doesn’t want you to know | Comment is Free”)

VI. When the rich make the tax rules to their benefit, it creates gross inequality:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Were Not Broke – The Corporate Tax Cheats of America”)

VII. A final word of reason — Voter’s Leverage — This is how democracy works:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Democratic Civil War! A Struggle We Must Win“)

VIII. HEHEHE:

Jimmy Dore at his finest as a comedian, giving us an ironic parody of disgusting MSM behavior:

Video Weekend 10-28-2017 (7 Videos)

This weekend’s video collection deals with a broad mix of issues illustrating a need for a systemic overhaul:

  1. No More Middle Class or Rule of Law
  2. Instead: Neoslavery, State Oppression, and MSM BS
  3. The Pathology of the Rich
  4. Capitalism vs Democracy… and a new Vision

I am amazed by this guy’s patience and tolerance, and yet I agree with his final critique: too many of us are indeed accomplices of our sickeningly inhumane society:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “From Middle Class to No Class in America Documentary”)

Get more familiar with our new slave plantations (Jimmy Dore):

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “LA Sheriff Wants “Good Ones” For Prison Labor”)

Destroy the World by money-making. Save it by changing your priorities (Jimmy Dore):

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Stunning Photos Of Ocean Pollution & New Cleanup Solution”)

We really need more anti-establishment media (Lee Camp shining a light on NPR):

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “What You Aren’t Being Told About NPR”)

Ancient Greece invented state democracy. Hear a modern Greek explain democracy’s (and our economy’s) decline. He also proposes a fair economic system (which won’t devour democracy):

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Capitalism will eat democracy – unless we speak up | Yanis Varoufakis”)

The culture of our lords:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “The Pathology of the Rich – Chris Hedges on Reality Asserts Itself (1/2)”)

And please abandon the neoliberal myth that if you study and work hard enough you will be well off in life and – by implication – those who are not well off didn’t study and work hard enough. This argument totally ignores that our economy is structured like a pyramid scheme with wealth at the top, poverty at the bottom, a range in between, and wealth being extracted upward. In such a society, your financial state depends on where you are placed in the pyramid, and if you manage to climb up, you hold someone else down. Only by restructuring our society towards prosperity for all can we really nip the anguish from poverty and artificial scarcity in the butt. You can listen to the rest of the interview here.

Bipartisan consensus for lawlessness and “law” wielded as a weapon by the power elite:

Ending Dissent in America (and All Chance of Liberty)

Scenes are popping up in America such as we are used to see in foreign dictatorships. Our founding fathers gave us the 1st Amendment (and several others) to protect us from a dictatorial government. We were always supposed to be free to peaceably assemble and petition our government. But now that our government has been bought up by the robber billionaires who already robbed us of economic freedom, political freedom is also being eliminated. Wake up to the United Tyranny of America.

Steve Grumbine who has been on a journey of political awakening, starting on the political right and gradually moving left, becoming a Bernie supporter in 2016, and nowadays challenging the false popular economic and monetary wisdom that keeps being used to deny us our fair economic share of our country (and thereby our lives, as well), recently gave a powerful speech about the now sharply rising assault on our right and ability to dissent:

(Note: sadly he posted this on Facebook. So, if it shoulld et deleted, you may not be able to search for it anywhere. If you try, maybe look for this description: “Free Speech, the Right to Assemble and the Chilling Effects of the Police State”)

Additional information:

  1. For details on the arrests and criminalization of about 200 people who may be facing years – or even decades – in prison by “guilt” of association or simply being at the wrong place at the wrong time (which is to say being in an American street — don’t ever commit that “crime”), you can read more here.
  2. Institutions, government practices, and laws to suppress free thought and speech: Goodbye, Freedom of Thought, Speech, Assembly, and Petition (Political Storm)
  3. Innocent until Proven Guilty? – Not in the U.S.A. – Not if you Dissent (Beanstock’s World)
  4. Criminalization of protest. Jaw dropping legislation passed in Oklahoma. Implications for real political movements significant and frightening. (Sane Progressive, video)
  5. Redacted Tonight 6/30/2017 episode (20:39 min in)

Video Weekend 10-21-2017 (6 Videos)

This week’s series about our economic rigging and its collusion with politics comes to an end in the first segment of today’s Part A of this Video Weekend. The second segment has some mixed videos on recent events, and the third segment ends with a special rant and interview. Tomorrow, in Part B as a proper response to so much wrong and misery presented all week, I plan to share an analysis of the deepest roots of our trouble and a light at the end of the tunnel, a glimpse at a chance for our nation and humanity to crawl out of its trap, oddly enough spearheaded by human cousins. Well, let’s get started:

Segment 1: The Finale of the Rigged-Economy-Week

I. The Face of our Engineered Poverty: The End of the Rope

I have quite a bit in common with… Without further ado:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “The Line: Poverty in America – Officially Licensed Version”)

Have you shed any tears watching? I hope you have. It’s proof of your humanity — and/or indication that you have experienced some of this yourself and are therefore recruitable for change.

II. The Invisible Victims

One way our rigged system has survived and done so well is by our habit of turning a blind eye to those who suffer the most. The ill fate of the poor is mostly known only to them. Few documentaries exist, and filling the gap in everybody else’s knowledge won’t happen in a single day. Still, for a start, here is a second telling documentary.

One aspect of poverty is not being able to afford proper housing, and – as usual – we not only have a situation of an entire section of the public being of low means (and being blamed for it on top of that), but of being not helped, only allegedly helped, discriminated against, price-gouged, cheated, and held in poverty and obscurity, with the rest of us lookin elsewhere. What a surprise we have coming when we find ourselves pushed out of the shrinking middle class and suddenly find ourselves in this dark underworld we never bothered to acknowledge or take a look at because looking below us might make us feel guilty and scared.

ZIP Code is Destiny – Housing is disappearing for Americans:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “The American dream is turned into poverty. Documentary 2017”)

III. Gods or Demons?

To top it off and complete the picture, an inside view of the 1% (not so much of their dark deeds which have already been exposed, but their lives and attitudes):

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “The One Percent”)

I wonder if a rare rich boy like this will ever move past making an Emmy-nominated confession and actually do something about the evil doings of his inherited business empire, or – better yet – not only do that but also work on changing the hellish course of our world? As it happens, Johnson & Johnson is still listed among the corporations that employ prison labor! Prison labor is a modern day form of slavery in the United States (and elsewhere, especially Asia). Inmates, often imprisoned without trial and on drummed-up or rather meaningless charges, work for $1.15 or less for a full day of work! This is not only an inhuman practice in itself but also takes away properly paid job opportunities from the labor makrket outside these slave-prisons.

.

Segment 2: The Political Establishment & State Machinery Continue their Evil Romp Unabated

So as not to fall completely behind on current events, here are some recent current event videos not to be missed:

IV. Meet our upside-down justice system:

Remember our Monday video telling of how the state machinery of pre-Nazi Germany helped bring the Nazis to power by actively opposing the working people’s unions, parties, and activists while at the same time promoting and shielding from prosecution and punishment many murderous fascists? We just had an eerily similar case in the U.S. — an outrageous, sad, and horrible mockery of justice and the law by none other than a judge and our police:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “VICTIM Of Beating In Charlottesville Charged With Assault”)

V. The “Democratic” Party Unvervingly Committed to Evil Corporatism

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Corporate Democrats Purge Bernie Backers From DNC”)

Segment 3: Patriotism, Nationalis, War Machine, and POTUS

VI. To finish, a bit of fun with Jesse Ventura:

Fascism, the Enemy of Democracy and Body Guard of Capitalism

This week is going to be loaded with highly informative, eye-opening presentations on the mess of our economy and ways to fix it. Please share them far and wide. Today begins with a thorough 30 minute review of fascist history showing many, many worrisome parallels to today. This lecture is likely to open your eyes on many issues. (If you prefer to read the script over listening to the lecture, you can do that here)

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Real History: Free Market Fascism”)

Terms like fascism, capitalism, and socialism – and their relations to democracy – have been so tremendously warped, overused, and intentionally turned upside down in demagogic efforts to confuse the public, that it has become dangerous to use them in conversation as they tend to make people misunderstand and demonize each other, killing all meaningful conversation before it has had a chance to touch upon anything of substance.  Continue reading “Fascism, the Enemy of Democracy and Body Guard of Capitalism”

Why Don’t we Create Paradise?

We clearly have the means to create Paradise on Earth. We have the science, technology, and know-how. So, why don’t we? Caitlin Johnstone, one of our most successful independent journalists (who I have caught red-handed before writing really good stuff), recently wrote an article dealing with this question: The Only Thing Stopping Us From Creating Utopia Is The Fact That We Don’t Truly Want It Yet — Well worth reading.

Her conclusion:

  1. In order to create utopia, we’re going to have to want it first.
  2. Therefor, the fact we don’t do it proves that “we don’t truly want it yet.”

Quickyinsight: Our Imperial Oligarchy (with video)

Michael Parenti has deep insights to share. On the downside, his speeches can be of a rambling nature (probably because of Academic privilege). This one is quite well done, though. It’s slightly on the old side (from the Bush-Chenery era), but it nicely illustrates the imperial nature of our oligarchy. We are far less removed from the slave-holding Roman empire, or the feudal empires that followed it, than we tend to think:

FSTV Keynote: Michael Parenti

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “FSTV Keynote: Michael Parenti “)

The nicest spot starts at 29:00 min into the speech.

Mentality of the oligarchs (slightly reworded): In their view, our country should be run by and FOR the rich and well-born. They completely believe they are deserving of their station in life (and we of our dreadful station). As has been said, G.W. Bush was born on third base and grew up thinking he had hit a triple. They believe that America should lead the world, and that they should lead America. They believe that the poor are the authors of their poverty and that we – the working class / middle class – are a troublesome lot that needs to be reined in. They believe that we have to ratchet down our standard of living and level of expectations a lot more so that the people at the top can get even richer than they already are by diverting more wealth to them.

Conclusion (by Michael Parenti or someone he is quoting): There’s only one thing ruling classes have ever wanted throughout all of history, and that’s everything(!).

This is so well said, I don’t want to dilute it with additional commentary. Just let the above sink in.

Bad News (and an Idea): Unlimited Censorship on the Horizon

Defeats happen every once in a while, more often at the start of a struggle than in its later phase. We are still at the start of fixing our corrupted system, so defeats are still common. On Monday, the Senate voted 52-41 to confirm Ajit Pai, the sworn enemy of Net Neutrality (i.e. free speech on the Internet), to another term as chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Senate Confirms FCC Chairmen Effectively Killing Net Neutrality “)

This is a disaster that we must not take lying down because Net Neutrality is one of the last, and perhaps the most essential, of hold-outs of democracy in our country.

America’s Unsung Hero

To the younger among us who perhaps have never heard of this man, I want to introduce a great beacon of light in America who has been smeared very thoroughly out of the public consciousness. We owe him things like the Freedom of Information Act, the Consumer Product Safety Act, the Clean Water Act, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the Whistleblower Protection Act, and the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act (safety standards for motor vehicles and road traffic safety). In his lifelong fight for the people he evidently has saved thousands upon thousands of lives, and without him we would have a far worse America (if you can imagine that) than we have now. This most amazing of American activists is none other than Ralph Nader.

By the early 1970s Nader had become a household name, and suggestions arose that he should run for president. Yet, when he finally agreed to run for president in 2000 because his public interest groups could no longer get hearings in Bill Clinton’s Washington, our establishment smeared, defamed, (and even sued!) him so massively that I fear many of the younger folks, especially the millennials on whom many of our hopes now rest, have never heard of him. And many of us who still know of him may see him in the false light of those smears propagated across the corporate media. The “Democratic” Party arm of our duopoly branded him as the “spoiler” who gave us the Bush-Cheney regime (something Jeb Bush’s Florida election fraud, the Supreme Court’s unconstitutional halting of the Florida vote recount, and Al Gore’s own lame campaign and refusal to challenge the election fraud are far more responsible for than any of the third-party or independent candidates who ran for president that year), just as they have been trying to smear Bernie Sanders since last year for allegedly giving us Trump. (my latest Video Weekend post has more on this)

Last Saturday, I gave everybody a small taste of Ralf Nader, but he merits way more attention. Here, then, is a magnificent speech of his well worth watching:

DACA-Repeal: Punish the Children

People who have been isolated from immigration issues tend to think everything is so simple. They never wonder: How real or artificial are our borders? What is our responsibility in what happens in places like Mexico, like when OUR politician’s NAFTA agreement and OUR agricultural subsidies to large farming corporations in combination with the eliminated import protections from NAFTA destroy the family farms of countless Mexicans, so they are forced to flee north across the border to pick our melons for starvation waves for sheer survival? Or: Can an 18-month-old baby really break the law?

Therefore I am sharing a video I shared before, over a year ago, as a reminder:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “American Sueño Part 1: Meet Marisol”)

That’s the problem with demagoguery. A lot of people in a country suffer and want change. Along comes a demagogue who hides the true causes and solutions for their problems behind scapegoating a group of even weaker people who cannot defend themselves against these false accusations because they are at the very bottom of the economic and political hierarchy or a too-small minority.  Continue reading “DACA-Repeal: Punish the Children”
