I. Midterm Election 2018
Too many losses. A few (way too few) progressive wins (only 2 new progressives in Congress):

This weekend compilation of enlightening videos is a little shorter and less varied since I was traveling all week, short on time, and cut off from the Internet most of the time. Still here are insightful videos esp. on the economy, its relationship with government spending and tax cuts, the SCOTUS show around Kavanaugh, the latest tax heist, the amazing political con job keeping so many folks bedazzled, fighting for election integrity and to break up the big banks, the ongoing media war, a very comprehensive speech by a major fighter for the people (Chris Hedges), and a tip of the hat to the burgeoning People’s Movement.
I. Government Spending & Economy
Mark Blyth gave a good explanation connecting private and public debt and savings and government spending & the economy:

Kings don’t like to be taxed. So, the newly formed kings (robber barons, billionaires) decided to declare all those with a leg up on the economic ladder to also be kings of sorts. Lesser kings, but still kings. Kings to hate taxes. Well-off winners of the market society’s lottery who hated the idea of paying for welfare given to the needy blamed as lazy. Those royally deluded dupes in the GOP, and later also the “Democratic” Party, promptly worked to lower and abolish taxes for the new kings, hoping to lower them for themselves as well, while getting secretly screwed with increased housing costs, insurance fees, road tolls, FICA taxes, college fees, and so forth. If you can’t think for yourself (or believe that you can’t) you prefer to leave the thinking to the traditions into which you were born. If those traditions are well-balanced, you and those around you may benefit from them. But how can you know if they are actually good traditions if you forfeit your ability to think like a smart human and instead live the instinctive life of an animal that lives its preprogrammed life? Don’t you throw away the greatest gift of humanity, the ability to evaluate, analyze, and improve things?
The theme I am discussing in this short piece is one of the two main pillars of Republican-co-opted conservatism: the placement of tradition over thinking. (Blind faith in authority is the other.) I am not saying that conservatism is bad. Good things deserve to be preserved. But do bad things deserve to be preserved, too? I don’t think so. Continue reading “Good and Bad Tradition”
It’s the gist of 2017, but it’s also been true for a very long time. The thing to add is that some thirty years ago the “Democratic” Party joined in this feeding frenzy of the rich upon the poor. The Dems try to save face by sometimes standing up for one or the other safety net program when the Reps are attacking it. However, in the long run, both political gangs are set to steal from the poor to give to the rich. It’s the millionaire minions working for kickbacks from the robber billionaires. And whenever we, the people, turn a blind eye because the current raiders are affiliated with the party we believe to be ours, we enable them.
The below video describes the current raids:

A big part of the self-gifting buried in the GOP Tax Scam (that chimera they call a “tax reform” which I analyzed in great detail yesterday) is the elimination of the federal estate tax. And while this is so clearly a gift the rich are giving to themselves, the Republican Party and its allied corporate media amazingly manage to get a bulk of the people whom their actions harm to cheer and support them (as they have been able to do since Ronald Reagan who was an expert in making dastardly deeds sound good). What is really going on when a poor or middle-income person defends the rich against an estate tax? It boggles the mind of anyone who understands the estate tax. So, how does this abstruse behavior come to be? Continue reading “The Estate Tax in the Big Picture”
We hear a lot of talk about the GOP Tax “Reform.” Talk is cheap, though. Let’s take a look at the facts on the ground.
According to the politically neutral Tax Policy Center’s analysis, the top 1% of earners would receive about 80% of the tax benefit. That’s pretty grim and leads me to ask: who is financially struggling in our country? Is it the 1%? Continue reading “The GOP’s Christmas Gift to the Billionaires”
A fitting opening for this week where the latest tax scam will receive some scrutiny here (2 articles coming):

How the establishment likes to play with our heads! Long years ago, one of their think tank monsters came up with the devious idea of labeling the estate tax as a “death” tax. For people who take in catchy phrases like that without using the gray matter of their brains to think, this automatically sounds like a horrible idea since we don’t like death. The automatic thought runs through their heads: Oh no! I’ve been paying taxes all my life, and now they want to tax me when I’m dead?!? Continue reading “The myth of the “Death Tax””
