Consumerism is part of the yoke by which we are controlled, enslaved, and distracted from life’s priorities. We should use our holidays more for spending time with friends and family and less on barreling through stores and heaping giant loads of useless junk on everyone. That’s why I shared a critical consumerism documentary in last week’s Video Weekend.
Once you realize how thoroughly our country’s system is rigged in all its aspects — the economy, the government, elections, and the corporate mass media — the only logical stance to take is to reject it.
As it turns out, we are getting played every second of our lives. At work we are being bossed around from the top with the virtual gun of financial ruin held to our head, and so we are forced not only to put up with abusive treatment and little to no say, but with shamefully low pay after having much of the value we create through our work stolen from us when it is swiped into the vaults of CEOs and shareholders (or single company owners in the case of non-traded companies).
When we pay rent, we are being made to finance the acquisition of real estate by our landlords, and when we pay a mortgage we are being made to enrich the banksters. When we seek help in a health crisis, we are being made to enrich doctors, insurance magnates, and the owners of drug companies and equipment manufacturers while our health is merely a second or third priority or no consideration at all. When we try to get a good education, we are forced to go into possibly lifelong debt only to never find a good job despite great qualifications. Continue reading “The People’s Position Must be NO!”
Twelve great videos befitting our Thanksgiving week. The first is a report on the current GOP tax scam and the near future our oligarchs are planning for us. Ack! The other 11 videos are thoughts from around the world about the UBI portion of the great future we must fight for. Various angles, differing views… I left out the bogus status-quo-worshipping and economic-evil-justifying claims from disgusting people since I don’t want to spoil anyone’s weekend… luckily I didn’t come across a lot to begin with. Phew! — So, let’s move on to a bunch of thoughtful and uplifting, yes uplifting (except for the 1st one, I suppose), weekend videos.
I. The Present Mess:
The future the current lords are planning for us:

II. Thinking About the Future — Various Views on a UBI
In my “holy trinity” proposition of a great economic system forming a shared assets economy using these three parts – a universal basic income (inherited citizen’s dividend), an earned (through work) assets dividend, and a public monetization of needed work (federal job guarantee) – the UBI is one of the currently most discussed measures:
Even the rich see sense in a UBI (mostly a safeguard against our pitchforks, for sure):

This political video weekend edition covers four subjects: Political Corruption, Economy, Media, and Fresh Thinking
I. Political Party Corruption
Can this be real? 5 minutes into this video, reality turns inside out:
(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Donna Brazile Accidentally Reveals More Than Just DNC Corruption”)
Corruption Anyone? Did you think Donna Brazile was the real deal? Want to really know about corruption in our Twin-Party Tyranny? What if we follow Brazile’s money? Well there you go! Didn’t I tell you she was just another corrupt player?
In case you somehow missed the Donna Brazile revelations, here is a good review:

Consumerism is part of the yoke we live under:

Good interview with David Graeber from 2012 (a good follow-up if you heard his “DEBT: The First 5,000 Years” Google Talk or read my commentary on Wednesday:
(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Debt: The First 5000 Years – Extended Interview”)
Interesting thought: “Anarchy is democracy without a government.”
An Older (February) but Good Show on Immigrant Rights, Tim Black, Trump, and Basic Income (at 22:29 minutes). Especially the latter (at 22:29 minutes) is worth hearing as on of the best talking takes on UBI this year:

One point I’d like to add: a basic income is essentially a citizen dividend on our mutually owned country, as opposed to all dividends currently only going to the rich and well-to-do.
Enlightening interview (media not beholden to our corporations and deep state are where we can get unfiltered U.S. news from; that includes defamed FOREIGN media):

Another alternative to censored corporate MSM and social media: Desperate exploited workers hide calls for help in their products:

Despair, the grand old mother of invention…
IV. Rethinking our World
Thinking outside the box is necessary for any successful revolution. There can be no real change unless we change our thinking. According to thise speaker, 95% of the time people run on autopilot (essentially not thinking at all). When they do think, they usually think inside the box, typically a very small box. So, just as this gentleman suggests to business people, in politics, if we want real change for our country, we must likewise begin to think outside the box (a new party, a cross-party people’s coalition bringing in many third parties, not just voting but fixing our bad and rigged electoral system to have integrity and full representation through things like public campaign financing, publicly and oppositional counting of paper ballots, ranked choice or scored voting, a universal basic income combined with a federal job guarantee plus equitably shared national assets and a maximum income instead of merely raising the minimum wage…):
