I. The People’s Movement

The Violence of The Rich and Well-To-Do

Nick Braña and Portia Boulger talked about the blowout that progressives are suffering in the rigged “Democratic” primaries. How the party bosses play their base and the public… It’s real nice to see young and old get together to reshape our corrupted country. The conversation starts out a bit slow but gets and stays really great and moving after the first half hour:

Portia: [Bill Clinton’s] welfare “reform” took people who were in poverty into dire poverty.

At -32:50 Nick tells about a powerful experience. And Portia adds another great commentary. -27:23: “The basic foundation of society is honesty and treating our people right. Our constitutions in our states and our nation’s constitution talk about taking care of the people. And that’s beautiful about the poor people’s campaign. They are holding people accountable that are supposed to be supporting and protecting our rights. Around -24:40, Nick gives a very astute analysis of news coverage and the “Democratic” Party’s long-standing practice of co-opting change movements and reducing them to nothing but vote gatherers for the party corporatists… and the potential of the Poor People’s Campaign to resurrect the progressive movement that died with MLK’s assassination. -22:13 Portia: People who choose not to be good don’t support poor people. When we got people dying because they can’t afford medical care, that’s violence. And more and more and more by Nick and Portia… (incl. liberal doesn’t mean liberal anymore…)

II. The Fight Within the DP Camp

The people want progressive representatives:

Comment: We have had plenty of cases of the “Democratic” Party establishment blocking progressive candidates (people’s candidates) in the primaries, the most famous among recent cases: Dennis Kucinich. The party seems to be corrupted by money in politics to the point of no return, just like the Republican Party. Hence inside pressure in the DP is very useful but will probably fail to change the party, as it has for decades, and a new party or party-transcending people’s coalition will have to join the fight for democracy and a just economy that serves us all. I think that pressure from both sides (inside and outside) is necessary to break the DP corruption and open a way for the people to have its voice. The fact that some progressive challengers do slip through the party establishment’s barriers and then have great success with voters indicates that we voters have learned a lot, aren’t willing to suffer the status quo any longer, and are ready to establish an America for us all. That is very encouraging.

Comment: The Wall Street Casino must be curbed. Financing businesses by buying their stocks is one thing, but gambling stocks with fictitious prices to rob small investors or sell businesses down the drain is another. Remember, inventing soaring prices on virtual objects such as stocks may make some stock market gamblers rich, but the money for which they cash in their stocks to buy their palaces and luxury yachts must come from somewhere — such as from hard-working people who, if they have anything left at the end of the month, may put their hard-earned left-over dollars into a retirement fund which buys stocks to build a source of dividends. That’s where the stock gamblers’ wealth comes from, and it’s the reason why everyday Americans like you and me can no longer get any worthwhile investment returns or saving account interests.

Comments:

Foreign-bought (despot-bought) influence in U.S. politics is massive and destructive. But if you have been swallowing the corporate media and corrupt politicians’ propagandist Russia story, ask yourself if you have ever heard of a think tank hall named after Putin or come across a Russia-endowed center on an American university campus, the things the Saudi princes have planted everywhere in our country.

Better don’t vote for a billionaire thinking he is a successful businessman and therefore good for government. Instead you get an easily manipulated child in a grown-up body (one definition of a billionaire), someone who never had to struggle with hardship and fight for survival or make tough decisions, someone who is much more interested in his public image as a tough guy and in kick-backs since all he has ever been concerned about was himself. When will there be an equivalent Clinton Town Hall, btw?

The People’s Movement is Born

Finally, the people’s coalition I called for over a year ago seems to be launching.

It has been brewing for a while. In 2008, a landslide of votes put Obama in office because he had promised hope and change. Starting around 2009, the Tea Party was formed to co-opt rebellious right-wing Americans. In 2016, a storm swept through our elections, boosting Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump. We are still in trouble. Time and again, we were cheated and lied to. But we are not done. The American People still needs and wants change, and we will keep fighting for it. Now a people’s movement is being born that transcends political party lines.

Important facts:

1. The twin-party tyranny has sold us out to the robber billionaires and driven our country to the brink of collapse.
2. The American People is sick and tired of the twin-party tyranny. Independents are now the largest voting bloc. And, according to Gallop, around 60% of Americans want a new major party, and the trend has been rising for years.
3. The efforts to flood and take over the “Democratic” Party for the people have had practically no success. Even though some people’s candidates managed to take over low positions, the party establishment still rules supreme and is blocking and purging those who don’t share their corrupt ways.
4. If a political revolution fails, only two possibilities remain: a violent revolution and/or a violent dictatorship
5. Millions have been leaving the “Democratic” Party thanks to last year’s rigged presidential primaries and the party’s continued stubborn resistance to reforming away from its big-money-in-politics corruption and towards fighting for the people’s needs. They, just like independents (and even many Republican Party members) need a new party to represent them.
6. Existing third parties tend to suffer from low voter confidence and can be in mutual competition for votes. A coalition can help overcome that.

When representatives of the Draft Bernie for a People’s Party movement met this September 8-10 with other third-party representatives and activists, the idea finally crystallized to converge into a people’s coalition. While flooding the base of the existing mainstream parties will help to keep on the pressure, I strongly suspect that a trans-partisan people’s coalition will achieve the most. So, I am happy today to present a report on the official launch of the “Movement For a People’s Party”:

The one part that may still be missing is the massive grassroots effort I recommended when I suggested the American People’s Coalition a year ago. I still think that all of us who can do so should engage in direct action, including the local hammering out of a broadly acceptable platform of public goals that most Americans can sign on to — and then implementing it in local politics. In other words, whenever we can to do something ourselves, let’s not wait for others to do great things on higher electoral levels. Let’s all talk to our friends, family, and neighbors, hold house parties or communal meetings, and move forward together. Even while we wait for national and state level changes, we can often make local changes right now. And also, very importantly, we must inform ourselves and polish our ideas to be ready inside for the changes we want on the outside.

Note: The new website is forapeoplesparty.org. The older site (Draft Bernie For a People’s Party) still exists. The latter’s Facebook page has been renamed to Movement for a People’s Party. Hopefully, not too many followers of that page have thereby lost the connection. (Facebook is buggy about name changes)

Comments: Yes, sadly, these practices of the robber billionaires are nothing new. In the old days, they were called robber barons. They set up business practices to shift the nation’s wealth from the hands of the many into their own, gouged the people in the process, corrupted politics to make it all possible, and – when they had hoarded so much wealth that they started running out of ideas of what to do with it, or were getting old and facing the time of life (old age and its decrepitude) when we become increasingly dependent on the goodwill of people around us, or when the worry arises that their might be divine justice after death – they then began to give to charities, or even start their own charities proudly bearing their names, in order to make themselves look good. But when has one of these master thieves ever turned around to try for real absolution and do something to actually fix our rigged system?
