Political Awakening Video Weekend 04-07-2019 (20 videos) — Biggest Topic: UBI

This weekend’s video collection of political, economic, and societal issues – both problems and their solutions – is mixed with significantly more written commentary than usual, basically merged with an article. The writing is added to tie the clips together and also enhance the understanding they bring. This particular compilation is also dominated by a heavy focus on one big major theme that is growing in popularity and public discourse: the concept of a Universal Basic Income. Here are many of the pros and cons and how a UBI fits into the big picture. Other topics: an ethical society, news on the corporate media, healthcare, Tulsi Gabbard, liberty, whistleblowers (Manning & Assange), top-run dividedness of the people, Venezuela’s economic reality, and a political comedy session.

Topics:

  1. UBI: Introduction
  2. UBI: Active & Passive Incomes, Taxed or Not
  3. UBI: Just Printing Money for a UBI is not the Correct Way
  4. UBI: Social Context and Effects of a UBI
  5. UBI: A panel discussion with further insights
  6. UBI: Here is another pretty good discussion
  7. UBI: The UBI-Scam-Worry on the Left
  8. UBI: Well Made Point Concerning the Ethics in Our Society
  9. Lee Camp Exposes Our Ayn-Rand-Style Corporate Media
  10. Healthcare: An American Tourist’s Healthcare Experience in Europe
  11. Tulsi Opposes Torture and Regime Change Wars

Video Weekend 04-14-2018 (11 videos)

Some videos I wanted to share for weeks kept slipping through the cracks (what with me having all sorts of existential battles to fight each week and day). Here they finally are, and then some. There’s a lot of bern in this compilation.

  1. Inequality
  2. Mentality
  3. Party Corruption
  4. Media
  5. Foreign Policy
  6. War

I. Inequality

To start, here is the full recording of the inequality town hall of Bernie Sanders which you probably have seen already somewhere (I think I may have shared at least a small clip from this already). More videos further below refer to it. If you want to (re-)watch or search through the whole event, you can do it right here:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Bernie’s Inequality in America National Town Hall – TYT Summary “)

  • Note: Very important point: the top 10% (not just 1%) do well enough and therefore do everything in their power to block the 90% below them from doing better.
  • Question: How are people who can’t get a job join a labor union?
  • Note: 44% of homeless people have a job but get paid too little to afford a home.
  • Good comment by Darrick Hamilton: Can we simply work hard and study hard and [thereby] adress inequality. The answer is no.
  • 1:08:45: How ourcorrupt laws are written.
  • Note: Another good point: the establishment not only rigs our elections and legislative process but also works on lowering our expectations so we let it all happen.
  • Noteworthy phrases: people being cut out of the game, shaming the poor
  • Nice quote from Bernie: ”… this 1% that wants it all and is prepared to step on everybody.”

Comment: Dubious (neo?)-liberals wooing progressive voters are always saying that they and we want equality of opportunity. I am not satisfied with that. I want a less cruel system. In fact, I want a system that is NOT cruel.

And here is the TYT summary:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Bernie’s Inequality in America National Town Hall – TYT Summary”)

… and Kyle Kulinski’s commentary:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Michael Moore: Dems Need To Be A Party For Workers“)

… and “The Rational National’s” commentary:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Bernie And Michael Moore Slam Corporate Media’s Failure On Poverty “)

Everybody is empathetic, a self-serving “conservative” says (except he, apparently, who places the “Free Market” god above compassion and solidarity that he believes we simply cannot afford): — It’s sometimes helpful to check up on the other side of the fence in our divided society. So, under this link you can listen to a well-to-do, comfortable-all-his-life GOP/libertarian supporter ignorantly philosophizing over economics and reinforcing the to him so convenient belief that helping the disadvantaged is simply not possible or will miraculously happen by itself through the profit-driven market which doesn’t give a rat’s tail about people’s misery. (btw, loosing abysmal jobs with slave wages is actually a good thing, not a bad thing, if we make it possible to replace them with better alternatives – and the example of McDonalds replacing people with machines happened actually in the context of McDonalds having had record profits; furthermore, Bill Gates created only a microscopic portion of “his product”, so why does he get almost all the profit? … Like many confused folks, this guy does get some points at least somewhat right, such as that rising student loans without university price regulations drives the prices for university attendance up (it’s only part of the story, though, as usual). For the same reason, by the way, a universal basic income or federal job program shouldn’t come without safeguards like rental price control to prevent rent usury that could undo any widened prosperity).

II. Mentality

People’s inside diseases result in a sick society. Meet the quasi-religious mentality at the top of our dungheap society pooping down on us below:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “The Religion Of Libertarianism“)

III. Party Corruption

Topics: a fool’s errand to run as an honest candidate inside a corrupt party; no law enforcement concern over Americans stealing elections from Americans (only Russian suspects of minor electoral shoplifting seem to matter), election officials who tear up ballots, immunity of white-collar criminals, corporate and government crimes being the biggest of all crimes by far, helping culture and society instead of only a few individuals, etc.:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “[106] Democrats Destroy Democracy, Banks Launder Money For Terr¤rists w/ Tim Canova“)

IV. Media

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Bernie Hammers Corporate Media: They Cover Stormy Daniels Instead Of Poverty!“)

If it doesn’t get too repetitive, here is a similar commentary by Mike Figueredo.

V. Foreign Policy

The “World Police” fosters dictatorships and war:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Bernie Stands Up To War Machine! Introduces Yemen Resolution “)

VI. War

An exact replay of last year’s media stunt[1] to legitimize yet another American war crime in the Middle East[2]:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “WEB EXCLUSIVE: Strikes In Syria – The Hard Facts (with Max Blumenthal)”)

Note: the U.S. Military Industrial Complex creates and supports Islamist terrorism (together with Saudi Arabia and Turkey). Are some eyes finally opening?

VII. Special Conversation

In this excellent conversation of two champions, Nick Braña from the Movement for a People’s Party talks with Tim Canova about leaving the “Democratic Party” and a lot more:

The Dishonesty of Demagoguery

Here is a little more info on the right-wing media’s language warping and manipulation (following up on a clip of two weeks ago):

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Megyn Kelly SHOCKED After Suddenly Realizing Fox News Always Pandered To Racists”)

Speaking code among insiders and reeling in folks by pulling the wool over their heads has always been the strategy of the extreme right. This should hardly be surprising when you consider that the “right” has, from the very beginning, be a corrupt gang serving the ruling establishment. Its original masters were kings and emperors, the Catholic Church (essentially the first multinational corporation in history), and the landed aristocracy. Later bankers, industrial capitalists, and corrupt high-ranking politicians took over. The right’s task always was to befuddle sufficiently large segments of the population into acting against their own interests by baiting them with follies like nationalism, racism, or religion, all ways to give the gullible a sense of being special and belonging to a superior social group. It’s feel-good politics instead of make-good politics and usually at other groups’ expense.

Addendum (1/23/2018): In our military, everybody gets brainwashed by Fox-“News” per force according to this report: EXCLUSIVE: 2-tour Iraq veteran exposes deliberate right wing brainwashing in the military

Video Weekend 01-06-2018 (8 Videos)

The first Video Weekend this year has eight neat videos covering three major themes:

  1. Plutocracy: Evil Incarnate
  2. Media: Brain Washing and Net Neutrality
  3. World Politics: American Empire in the Middle East

I. Plutocracy (Evil Incarnate)

Excellent piece! Taking off the mask of the despicable plutocrats, enemies of the people:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Corporate Leaders Are Not Nice People – Richard Wolff“)

A Plutocrat Despising and Threatening us for Standing up for ourselves

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Why Centrist Democrats Refuse to Embrace Progressivism (w/ Jimmy Dore) “)

Another great piece by Richard Wolff. How the industrial plutocrats brought us to heel. Consumerism VS Lifetime:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “EconoMinute: Consumerism“)

The co-opted government – just cutting improvable programs isn’t beneficial reform:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Trump WILL Cut Social Security, Medicare, And Medicaid “)

Quote: “They meant to take my money and give it to the rich!” A: “Yes, that’s the whole point of the Republican Party!” — Correction: It’s the whole point of the duopoly! Stop giving the “Democratic” Party a pass, Cenk, please. Your plan to take it over from within isn’t really helped by turning a blind eye.

II. Media (Brain Washing & Net Neutrality)

If you read yesterday’s piece about the leftist media myth, here is a clip addressing the gradual right-warping of our mass media and manipulated minds:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “How Fox News Brainwashed Her Dad“)

Follow-up: The Dishonesty of Demagoguery

Update on the continued fight for a censorship-free Internet:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Net Neutrality Repeal Reinvigorates Nationwide Fight for Public Broadband “)

Pity that Mike Figueredo has to pronounce advertisement at the end to finance his work. Any ads you see here on Beanstock’s World, by the way (other than my plea for help and mention of my online course), are placed not by me but by WordPress.com for hosting this blog free of charge. I have picked the route of asking for donations and/or other forms of support (such as link sharing and written contributions).

I am glad that there are other people with a fighting spirit out there who won’t take the oligarchy anymore, maybe more fellow fighters than I am quite aware of:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “FCC Now Being Sued by 17 States, Senate Will Vote to Undo Net Neutrality Repeal“)

III. World Politics (American Empire in the Middle East)

Middle East Open Secrets

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “American’s Biggest Misconceptions About Israel/Palestine Conflict w/Rania Khalek “)

You may also be interested in the earlier half of this interview, focused on Syria and Iran. (esp. interesting starting at 8:05 min)

Note: Please share widely! Social Media are blocking our own attempts to share.

Ending Note: It takes me at least 100 hours a month to research and write for this site and work on my book. If you find any value in what I do, please consider becoming a patron and supporting this site with an automatic monthly donation of $1 or more. If you can’t afford this, then don’t, but please share my posts, tell folks about my online course offering, refer others to this site, refer me to paying outlets or companionable fellow blogs, partake in discussion, or contribute essays of your own. Or help my book get out there when it’s finished. Thanks. Only together can we change this world. 🙂

Epiphany on the “Leftist Media” Myth

For ages I boggled at the right-wing claim of the corporate media being left-wing when ALL the corporate media were so obviously anti-left. How could right-wingers not recognize that ALL the mass media were propounding right-wing views while blocking, mocking, and smearing left-wing views? The math just didn’t add up to me.  Continue reading “Epiphany on the “Leftist Media” Myth”

Election Allegory: The Robbed Town That is not Supposed to Care

There was a western town whose only bank was robbed by a gang of bandits. All the town’s residents lost their retirement savings, their down payment savings, their life’s savings, pretty much the whole town. Nationwide, law enforcement, politicians – and the “free” press, as well – kept playing down the robbery as if it had never happened. Mounting massive evidence was blithely ignored. And when some of the bandits publicly confessed the robbery a year later, the country’s politicians and the news media told the town’s residents that they should shut up about the affair because it was old news.

In truth, I just invented this town and its bank as an allegory for our democracy which was so blatantly robbed during the 2016 “Democratic” primaries by the neoliberal establishment in a coordinated theft conducted both at the national and the state levels, that only people whose heads are stuck in the sand don’t know about it.

What’s all this talk about moving on and forgetting about the “old news?” Is our democracy so unimportant? Can we get a fair and healthy economy – and a government that serves the people – any other way than through democracy?

I am not saying we don’t have to look to the future. Of course, we do. But if we ignore the ways by which our democracy gets stolen from us right in front of our eyes, what chance will we have to fight for a better future?

So, those out there who keep poo-pooing the massive rigging and lack of integrity of our elections are doing a huge disservice to their country and fellow citizens, if not in fact themselves (the latter depends on how privileged their lives are or aren’t). In fact, they are aiding and abetting those traitors who stole our democracy.

They should wake up to the reality that when we don’t have a functioning democracy, a bloody revolution is the only way for the disowned people of a nation to liberated itself from the life-gouging perpetrated by a deeply corrupt fusion of government and a private sector possessed and controlled by inhumane robber billionaires. Is that what you want? Do you prefer a bloody revolution to a functioning democracy? Or are you perhaps keen for a brutal, fascist dictatorship to head them both off instead? Think about it. Think hard.
