Video Weekend 12-16-2017 (8 Videos)

Another weekend collection of informative videos, this time centered around Net Neutrality, DNC reform (what little there is), and our systemic corruption (including the tax gifts to the rich).

I. Death of the Last Bastion of Free Speech:

A local rescue of Internet Freedom (a.k.a. Net Neutrality):

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Cities Are Saving Net Neutrality By Providing Internet Themselves“)

and…

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “INVENTOR of World Wide Web Speaks Net Neutrality! “)

but…

The corporate attack is poised to overcome local countermeasures:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “The Destruction Of Net Neutrality Is Even Worse Than You Think“)

Good points:

  1. Corrupt politicians ban others from opposing them .
  2. The most corrupt, those who push policies that more or less the entire American people is against, pretend to be doing the opposite of what it is they are doing. Net Neutrality destroyers claim to be for the freedom of the Internet. It’s like an arson caught red-handed pouring gasoline on a house and claiming he is a firefighter. (which he is, but in an opposite sense of the general meaning)
  3. The revolving door which places corporate stooges in high government agency positions from where they betray the country to their corporations to which they return later for their pay-off.

Corporate greed is behind the repeal of Net Neutrality:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Ajit Pai Reluctantly Admits Repeal of Net Neutrality Poses “Risk” for Consumers “)

A point I’d like to make: if you somehow happen to consider corporations politically neutral and only after money (completely overlooking that bribing or buying the government creates a huge source of corporate money making it a logical corporate investment), then think about this: What would stop a despotic government from paying the corporations which control our information to censor the information flow? Haven’t you noticed how outsourcing has become the government’s handy means to have bad things done at its command and at the same time distance itself from them? If you haven’t noticed, maybe you should become a U.S. mercenary in the Middle East. It would be highly educational.

II. The fight within the “Democratic” Party to become a democratic party:

Amazingly, there are some news about a small bit of progress in the “Democratic” Party after we have been seeing nothing but its corporatist neoliberal thugs at the top digging in their heels since the 2016 debacle. Of course, I am sure, that bit of a bone they now threw to their critics is small enough that they are sure it won’t endanger their seats of power, corporate pay-offs, and privilege. Let’s not forget about the massive purges of the Bernie wing from the big “D” “Democratic” Party and the corrupt “leadership’s” stubborn clinging to corporate tit-for-tats throughout the entire hapless fight of the base for making the party represents them and the rest of the American people:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “The DNC Unity Reform Commission Results Are… “)

Aye… small concessions, small progress, but too small for sure… carefully kept small enough for the crooks still to rig the primaries again in 2020 just like last year… Oh dear. I am so tired of this. Let’s have a new party, a true people’s party ruled from below, not from above.

III. Our systemic corruption:

Inequality built into our system:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Debating Piketty’s theories on ‘Capital’ and inequality“)

I wonder why, instead of paying big undeserved bucks to this Kevin Hasset, they didn’t save money by simply tying a necktie around a big fat toad? Oh, right… the establishment media (unlike alternative media like me) are swimming in corporate money, so money is no object when casting such a propagandist show. So, scratch my question. … And what’s that weird tale of substituting workers with houses? Smoke and mirrors, as usual, I suppose. And, as usual, the moderator in establishment media edifies everybody, even the bloated toad, as an “expert” and a serious person, and thus the case allegedly isn’t closed, our systematic inequality isn’t real, and water isn’t wet. Let’s pretend to mull over this issue for all eternity instead of admitting how obvious it is and solving it post-haste.

Great comments (in nearly unintelligible heavy Scottish accent):

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Mark Blyth – Republican tax plan, Paradise Papers, Brazille’s DNC allegations, Theresa May“)

Good point: When you legalize immorality and evil, it may then be “legal,” but it is still wrong.

Richard Wolff at his best. This speech is dauntingly long but packed with hair-raising truths (incl. the GOP tax gift to the rich) and sharp economic and political analyses, the kinds of insights we all need to make meaningful change. If you are not too interested in the lengthy introductions, you can skip ahead to 10:53 minutes into the video where Wolff starts with a big splash about public education:

Obituary for the Free and Open Internet

net-neutrality-obituary

On Thursday the 14th of December 2017, our beloved friend and platform for the free exchange of ideas passed away after a long struggle with greedy broadband corporations and their corporate stooges such as Ajit Pai who was sent by Verizon to assassinate Internet Freedom (more commonly known as Internet Neutrality). All its life, the Internet served us as an open platform where facts and ideas could be freely exchanged and suppressed peoples could organize their opposition to despotic regimes and lethal corporations.  Continue reading “Obituary for the Free and Open Internet”

Great Reads on The Revolution Continues

Both this and last week had very well written articles on the current hikes in Washington: the GOP Tax Scam, the move to kill free speech on the Internet, our for-profit wars, and more — many of them replete with very telling graphics and memes. I regularly point at this great weekly blog, and – since I have been focusing more on general economic reform ideas lately than on the current D.C. scandals – I want to point my dear readers at that excellent blog so you can fill up on recent stuff I may have somewhat skipped over. Or I could simply say, the last two posts on The Revolution Continues were so neat, I’d be remiss not to share the links. 😉

So, for today, I will here merely post some recent quotes from The Revolution Continues to wet your appetite (and link to them, of course):  Continue reading “Great Reads on The Revolution Continues”

Dance of the Vampires around Net Neutrality

In case you haven’t noticed, we live not in a democracy and just economy but a cruelly callous oligarchy which concentrates all wealth and authority in the hands of a few robber billionaires and their millionaire minions. Part of the latter group are establishment “journalists” and news anchors, as well as the corporate stooges who get plugged into federal agencies whose official task it is to regulate the corporations from which these stooges come and to which they return after their agency stint to get repaid for their treason in millions of blood money. And when these various kinds of millionaire minions meet to dish out a buffet of misrepresentations and lies to the (often all too gullible) public, it reminds me of a dance of vampires. Watch how they are leading each other in their carefully choreographed minuets and baroque pavannes, the Grand Ball of Bloodsuckers:

(warning: watching these creeps can give you indigestion)

Bad News (and an Idea): Unlimited Censorship on the Horizon

Defeats happen every once in a while, more often at the start of a struggle than in its later phase. We are still at the start of fixing our corrupted system, so defeats are still common. On Monday, the Senate voted 52-41 to confirm Ajit Pai, the sworn enemy of Net Neutrality (i.e. free speech on the Internet), to another term as chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Senate Confirms FCC Chairmen Effectively Killing Net Neutrality “)

This is a disaster that we must not take lying down because Net Neutrality is one of the last, and perhaps the most essential, of hold-outs of democracy in our country.

Current Battlefronts: Internet Censorship & Kleptocratic Taxes

Our already extremely unfair tax system is once again up for being made even worse for red-blooded Americans. If they can’t rob us with a knife (healthcare), they’ll now try to rob us with a gun (taxes and spending). And our ability to fight back will be severely hamstrung if the current war on Net Neutrality succeeds (which it looks dangerously close to do).  Continue reading “Current Battlefronts: Internet Censorship & Kleptocratic Taxes”

Verizon Gives Us a Taste of No More Net Neutrality

This speaks for itself:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Verizon Caught Throttling Netflix, Violating Net Neutrality”)

Remember that the unfree market this creates is not the only danger. The other danger is political censorship. We MUST save net neutrality!

Alarm: The Oligarchy is Coming for Net Neutrality and thus Our Alternative Media and Public Discourse — Fight Back Now!

Demand Progress has raised the alarm and asks us to fight back: Trump’s gang is about to pull the rug out from under the media war that we, the people, must fight to save our country from the ravages of corporatism. By killing net neutrality, the oligarchy will be able to prevent our access to outlets of real news, sharp analyses, true narratives, and bold visions we can fight for, outlets like the one you are reading in right now.
