Once again, this weekend can partly be spent watching and discussing enlightening videos instead of grown men chasing silly balls. Stars: Naomi Klein, Jimmy Dore, Thom Hartmann, Richard Wolff, Abby Martin, Jesse Ventura, Brigida Santos, Ron Placone, Lee Camp, and MPP’s Nick Braña. Topics: secrets of a livable life, the money aristocracy & systemic inequality, neoliberalism privatizing away life, social media war, imperial oligarchy, astute system analysis, gig economy, and our oligarchic politics. As a follow-up to Monday’s sharing of Chris Hedges’s and Richard Wolff’s great recent conversation and yesterday’s sharing of late Ed Schultz’s Swan Song Speech (less far along but perhaps the exactly right stepping stone for some people who have still a little to catch up), here is another speech by Chris Hedges, a short one this time (only 16 minutes!) but still packing a big punch. Enjoy:

Kings don’t like to be taxed. So, the newly formed kings (robber barons, billionaires) decided to declare all those with a leg up on the economic ladder to also be kings of sorts. Lesser kings, but still kings. Kings to hate taxes. Well-off winners of the market society’s lottery who hated the idea of paying for welfare given to the needy blamed as lazy. Those royally deluded dupes in the GOP, and later also the “Democratic” Party, promptly worked to lower and abolish taxes for the new kings, hoping to lower them for themselves as well, while getting secretly screwed with increased housing costs, insurance fees, road tolls, FICA taxes, college fees, and so forth. It means that only those at the top should be free. Absolutely free, at that — allowed to do anything they wish regardless of the consequences for others. That it is the Ayn Rand “philosophy” (if you want to call sociopathy a philosophy) which has been repackaged and resold within these two labels (sort of like Pepsi and Coke).
Even though people of these convictions purport to be paragons of liberty, they actually undermine the American ideal of liberty and justice for all. One has to always ask them: freedom for whom? Hannibal Lecter and the billionaires?
P.S.: Here on Beanstock’s World you can always improve your vocabulary with which to talk about the corrupticians and their corporate masters.
BTW, if yesterday’s 4th of July post was not enough, The Revolution Continues posted some moving texts and themes for our “Independence” Day and also raised the idea of Bastille Day. Highly recommendable. 😉

…if it weren’t for the rich stealing from us. … if about 40 years ago they hadn’t begun revving up their plunder of working Americans — this made possible by them having bought the government and having used it to deregulate themselves (removing the referee from the economic game) and also by having used it to shift the tax burden on working families.
I reported on these economic statistics in the past and calculated that the rich are raking in at least half of our earnings (that we work for and they don’t). In fact, my own calculation came to the average working class family making $45,500 more per year if we weren’t getting robbed by the rich.
TYT recently gave a report detailing some of these stats. The clip gets most informative towards the end (6:44 min in) — the preceding stuff is less clear:

These days, so-called illegal immigration and mass deportations have been added to the growing hysteria marking the United States of Agony. Emotions are running high for good reason, but logical thinking is getting kicked into the ditch at the same time, as I will point out three paragraphs below. First, though, a look at the pandemonium: Continue reading “The Deportations Are Only for Show — Take a Second to Dig Deeper”
In all truth, visa-less immigration — typically smeared as “illegal immigration” as if running for a chance at life were a crime — happens with the approval by our state and federal governments who quietly let it happen in order to please our cheap-labor-hungry plutocracy. The displays of border fences and walls, border patrols, and ICE raids are really nothing but dog-and-pony shows to (A) pretend that this form of immigration which leaves these immigrants bereft of rights is not an establishment-run affair in collusion with our bought government, and (B) divide the working people in our country against each other, lest they unite to overthrow the plutocracy and build a democracy in America.
