Watching Out for Progressives Getting Co-Opted

This has happened many times before in American History. The people who previously wanted to progress away from cruel, evil system setups were too unaware of the appeasement and co-opting tactics coming for them from the ruling establishment to stop them in their tracks. So, the following conversation should not be mistaken for an anti-Bernie or anti-AOC clip, but rather as the kind of alertness we all must adopt, Bernie, AOC, you, and me.

Elected figures like Bernie and AOC walk a tightrope in the sell-out party they have been running in, not daring to run outside it because the artificial barriers against independents are so criminally high. I understand why they sometimes believe they must make compromises with the ruling ‘elites’ or adopt a staying-silent strategy on serious issues; but we – the people – are NOT walking this tightrope, and we must make sure not to be lured into spoiled mentalities or bad compromises out of blind loyalty, because once we shift into those gray zones, our champions must shift there, too, or even deeper into them, in order to not loose their footing. We must distinguish between their political survival tactics and our political needs. We must stick firmly to our goals, so that at one point or another, our champions in politics can do the same. So, here is that wakeful conversation that raises alertness but lacks the add-on I just added:

(Note: If the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for Graham Elwood and the title: “Will Bernie & AOC Sellout Progressives? — The Political Vigilante”)

Let there be no doubt: Bernie has won a special place in my heart he is unlikely to ever lose, even when I think he makes a wrong strategic choice (as, for example, I did when he endorsed $Hillary instead of forming a people’s party like Abraham Lincoln did in a similar situation; or when he failed to expose the DNC’s rigging of the 2016 primaries; and when he fell in with the Russiahhhgate BS in order to cuddle up with a zombie-like dumb-witted half of the “D”-party base and to delay being lynched by the corporate media). I’d also want him to speak out for Julian Assange, a free press, and free speech for all, and speak out more readily against regime change attempts and similar global U.S. terrorism. I also see Bernie and AOC as being only partly along the way of “socialism” and especially AOC needing to learn more in that field. I can understand her tightrope walk, as well. I still like her a lot despite this and that shortcoming, hoping she will keep growing in the correct direction. I do keep alert to when people like her and Bernie make mistakes or are drifting towards or even over the line that divides fighting for justice and liberty for all from working for the status quo. We, the people, must grow smarter, more alert, and more demanding as time goes by. Our nation was ruined when entire generations of Americans went to sleep. I can hear some of our nation’s founders spinning in their graves.

I know, the video shared above is not easy to stomach for some of us. We don’t want our political champions to be hurt with possibly inappropriate attacks on their street cred. The point I am trying to make here is different: not to claim that Bernie and AOC have sold out or are going to do so. Nor to debate what mistakes they have ever made. (We all make mistakes. It’s human.) Rather, my point is that we, the people, must stand firm on our position so that our champions can build their fortresses there rather than having to let themselves be pulled further and further away by the establishment forces who have developed great expertise in doing this over the centuries. We must stay on the alert and call back our champions when they range too far. We, you, I, and millions of fellow Americans, play a much bigger role than we usually realize. Bernie has been trying to make us understand this. It’s time we do.

P.S.: By the way, if this video gave you some willies, the coming Video Weekend will rather please you with some remarkably nifty videos coming up. Keep your eyes peeled. 😉

The Pro and Con Arguments Regarding Democracy

While founders like Thomas Jefferson argued that the only way to ensure justice, fairness, and prosperity is to distribute power and voice among all the affected people; enemies of democracy, fairness, justice, liberty for all, and shared prosperity have always argued that human nature is evil, that democracy therefore becomes a horrendous “mob rule”, and that the best solution is a wise and benevolent ruling ‘elite’ managing a system that keeps wealth, power, and voice away from the majority of the people lest anybody but members of the ruling class (*cough* *cough* ‘elite’) get a say in anything. I just wonder… if human beings were indeed inherently evil, where would that wise and benevolent ruling class ever come from?   Continue reading “The Pro and Con Arguments Regarding Democracy”

We Need a Considerate Compassionate Culture

All day, every day, I meet people with virtual blinders on. Last week, in order to help out desperate family members against government reprisals (the details are private) I accepted a menial job in a sweatshop for which I am totally overqualified in terms of education and professional experience but physically underqualified due to bad health. The task is to de-staple, de-eyelet, de-booklet thousands of paper sheets each day to make them scannable. The papers are banking files. It’s unbelievable how many inches of papers are put together for a single person’s single credit by bank clerks many of whom also plaster them with countless staples, metal eyelets, and so forth only for other people to get paid a minimum wage to remove all those troublesome metal pieces again prior to digital scanning. The hand-breaking job reminds me of the movie scene of two guys digging and tossing the dirt into each other’s holes. This dumb job is quite symbolic of the socio-economic system of today in which we modern humans waste away our lifetimes.

One of my colleagues told a local bank branch director that his workers place way too many staples and such on their paperwork requiring a lot of work to remove them again. The director’s only response was laughter. Rather than musing about instructing his clerks not to waste so much time and metal that only raises the banks’ costs for scan preparation he just laughed.   Continue reading “We Need a Considerate Compassionate Culture”

A Mighty Meme: Mental Slavery

I came across a great meme worth sharing. It depicts a most important truth. Click here to view it on Facebook where I stumbled on it it: Mental Slavery

Comment:

If we shall ever manage to turn our global ship around from going over the impending cliff, we will have to repair our manipulated mentality, cast off the mental chains that keep us locked in a horrible rigged system, and think like free human beings (rather than puppets) with the goal of a sustainable and good life for all, not just for a handful of edified bullies celebrated as job creators and leaders, rightful owners of the entire world, and ridiculously rich by dint of some fictitious merit.

America Awakening – Video Weekend 07-14-2018, Part B

Here is the spillover from yesterday’s political video weekend which just had no room for more clips. So many great videos piled up for sharing this week. Here is the rest, the gist of which we might conclude is that we are on a course of self-destruction and must change course. And luckily, people are waking up to it. Especially uplifting in this respect: our youth.

I. Reconsidering Believes

Capitalism may be gutting us but is not the whole U.S. economy:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for Thom Hartmann and the title: “Dear Conservative Alternet Trolls: America is NOT a Capitalist Country “)

Comment: Worker-owned co-ops are actually a form of socialism (which you could call an evenly-property-shared capitalism if you wished).

II. Socialism/Communism

Historic Review of Socialism and Communism until today, and why to take an interest:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for Jamarl Thomas, The Progressive Soapbox, and the title: “Jason Unruhe, Communist Perspective Of Ocasio-Cortez & Sanders,Revolution & More! Fascinating Convo!”)

Quotes: “The richer you are, the more power you have.” … And: “They all are on the side of capitalism” [because it is what makes them so rich and powerful].

“Fascism is capitalism in decay.” “[In Weimar Germany], the capitalist class did whatever it took to protect [itself], and that meant funneling money to the Nazis.”

1:06: “There’s never an honest conversation about wealth. You have one group of the population that brutally suffers and another part of the population that pretends that all the wealth gain it has accrued is purely of its own making.” Continuation on the latter: “That’s not honest. You were able to use a ton of labor from [other] people without necessarily giving any reparations for the labor that you were able to get.” (Comment: “any” seems exaggerated; “sufficient” or “much” would seem more accurate, since at least tiny portions are returned to the laborers to keep them alive and working, whether as terribly low pay or – slave plantation style – room and board) Continued: “and then turn around and say, ‘You people need to pull yourselves up by your bootstraps.’”)

Jason Unruhe links: Patreon, Youtube, and his website

Comment: “Radicals” who call for radical change are still being feared and seen as fringe by many. Also, they often get dragged into mud slinging fights (such as family-feud-style wars among progressives, among “leftists”, and so on) by people who self-identify with similar labels as the “radicals” do. The “radicals” themselves frequently attack those who water down or misrepresent their labels (such as socialism). All this infighting then leads to division among ourselves which keeps the corrupt establishment safe. My suggestion: wanting true and lasting change for the better instead of temporary band aids which will soon be peeled off again, is not radical in any sense other than the etymological one (that radical is a synonym for fundamental). We need to learn to stay rational and united around our widely shared most important goals.

And since this is emerging as a theme, here a light-spirited clip about socialism (which I shared before, but it seems suitable to share again in this context, especially since Newsbroke makes no more new videos):

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for Newsbroke, Francesca Fiorentini, and the title: “The Biggest Myths About Socialism”)

Here, btw, is the article Francesca suggested we read: Why “Twenty-First-Century Socialism” Failed (quite informative!)

And if you should want to dig deeper into the topic of socialism and haven’t watched this video I shared before, I warmly recommend this rich review of a number of meanings and flavors of traditional socialism, just to clear the establishment-polluted air a little with a bit of realism: Debunked: “Socialism Has Never Worked”

III. Mentality for Change

Backs against the wall and the legacy of our lives. As Tim Black says, what you live for matters a lot more than how you live, because you will be dead a lot longer than you will be alive. Also, other people matter too, and when we support each other, rather than push each other down, we will do better (maximizing our energies for the best effect rather than neutralizing them against each other), if you care to consider my scientific way of thinking…:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for Tim Black and the title: “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez How To Win Democratic Elections “)

Reminder: We cannot afford to make ourselves dependent on political candidates. We ourselves must drive for the changes we want until we get them. And we must make sure to create lasting change that won’t be rolled back like the New Deal has been.

IV. Young America Awakening

This is truly amazing. So much awareness, understanding, and commitment to responsible politics from a sixteen year-old (not to forget the 26-year old I can imagine as the future president of an America changed from hell to heaven, at least in terms of the American spirit and economic-political justice, although those of us still alive may by then be struggling heavily with a lethal climate):

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for Nick Brana, Movement for a People’s Party, Jamie Margolin, and the title: “MPP-TV Episode Seven Interview With Jamie Margolin of Zero Hour Youth Climate March”)

Late Ed Schultz’s Swan Song Speech

You may recall that Ed Schultz who died last week lost his corporate media job over wanting to cover Bernie Sanders’s presidential race announcement. Well, he came from the “conservative” side, learned in his life that social responsibility also matters besides looking out for oneself and one’s family; and before he died gave a speech delivering what he had learned (not enough, as he still stood with some corruptitians like Obama who were still able to con him into believing that they mean well, but still he had learned a lot… something worth spreading, I think, since it might resonate with others who are currently less far along on their journey of awakening):

The People Awakening South of the Border, too! The Mexican Bernie Has Won the Presidency!

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for Thom Hartmann and
the title: “The Bernie Sanders of Mexico was just Elected President” )

Links: part two (less interesting to me), info on Bush Family Fortunes: The Best Democracy Money Can Buy (the book and movie), Palast’s clip Stealth War on Voters

Word of caution: President AMLO seems to be just another social democrat (or a populist promising social democrat policies), meaning someone planning (or promising) to ease the struggles of the people but not to go so far as to eradicate the root of their struggles. Sadly, history has shown that the people then fall asleep and the corrupt forces at the top take over again, like here in the U.S. for the last several decades.   Continue reading “The People Awakening South of the Border, too! Video Weekend 07-07-2018 (14 videos)

Starring, among others: Thom Hartmann, Susan George, Paul Jay, Thomas Frank (‘Listen, Liberal’), Kyle Kulinski, Mike Figueredo, Ro Khanna, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Steve Grumbine, Bernie Sanders. — One theme emerging from this compilation is the journey of the Republican party through brainwashing to a rich people’s party supported by its brainwashed, and also the journey of traditional conservatives from the GOP to the “Democratic” Party and possibly beyond the false twin-party dichotomy. Yet another indication that conservative, liberal, and progressive are labels that often obfuscate how we really feel and think. Categories:

  4. Immigration & Deportations
  5. Brainwash by the Oligarchy

  8. Corruption
  9. Grassroots Campaigning

I. Awakening Journey

The Journey from “Conservative” to “Liberal” to What? (Paul Jay with Thomas Frank). Topics: Reagan. Populism and liberty flipped on their heads.

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for Paul Jay, Thomas Frank, and the title: “From Ronald Reagan to Bernie Sanders – RAI with Thomas Frank (5/9) “)

The next part of this clip series may also be of interest, concluding that we live in a system now that BREEDS inequality: Prisoners of Hope – RAI with Thomas Frank (6/9)

II. Language, Narratives, Mindset

Kyle Kulinski on a topic I recently wrote an article about which I have yet to publish (false label use, in particular the confusion between social democracy and democratic socialism), and that what we really want is what really matters, regardless of labels and smears (Addendum: Psst… my piece is published now.):

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for Kyle Kulinski, Secular Talk, and the title: “Democratic Socialism Vs Social Democracy“)

III. Vote Shaming

Deportations & Protecting the Establishment (and getting us fascism) through vote shaming:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for The Humanist Report , Mike Figueredo and the title: »Kathy Griffin Vote Shames Jill Stein Voters: “F**K YOU ALL.”«)

Comment: The thing to remenber is that fascism is a tactic for protecting the establishment during times of popular unrest!

IV. Immigration & Deportations

Hear a Central American talk about Deportations and abuse of immigrants

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for Greg Wilpert, Roberto Lovato, and the title: “Media Coverage of Trump Immigration Policies Ignores Democrats’ Complicity”)

America benefits from being an immigrant nation:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for Aaron Maté, Ro Khanna, and the title: “Rep. Ro Khanna: Democrats Can’t Be Liberal at Home But Hawkish Militants Overseas“)

V. Brainwash by the Oligarchy

Outrage and Civility: The self-satisfied, easy-living political gentry have anesthetized political debate:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for Thom Hartmann and the title: “Is it Time to be Outrageous?“)

The Oligarchy’s “Libertarian” Brainwash has been Working Globally

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Susan George: Trump in Europe“)

VI. Neoliberalism brilliantly Explained

A Physics Model of Neoliberalism (get ready for the bang)

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Neoliberalism as a Water Balloon“)

VII. New Deal Repeal & Recovery

What does it mean to be Republican?

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for Thom Hartmann and the title: “How Far will the Morbidly Rich & Donald Trump Go“)

Having money and time for life when employed full time used to be possible before the oligarchy’s raid on and restructuring of our economy. To a small degree, even self-defined conservatives are beginning to agree that a better structure might be possible:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for Thom Hartmann and the title: “Conservative Says If You Work, You Can’t Be Poor? “)

Comment: I wonder if the innate respect for authority and fear of upturning the apple cart makes typical conservatives admire abusive employers.

VIII. Corruption

Government letting the big banks steal:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for TheRealNews, Greg Wilpert and the title: “Fed Lets Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley Off Hook, Investors Profit Billions”)

Comment: I can litterally see Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley asking for a bailout soon. (Note: the guy is really off when declaring low unemployment, though)

IX. Grassroots Campaigning

Remix of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez talking:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Could Be The First Latina to Represent Her District in Congress”)

Note: Building local grassrootsis a workable alternative to spending big moeny in order to get on the ballot.

X. Being Human

This week, Steve Grumbine held a moving and inspiring Fourth of July speech I can relate to in a whole number of ways. Maybe so can you. It touches especially upon what it means to be human and living in a society:

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title: “Happy Interdependence Day | Steve Grumbine of Real Progressives “)

Comment: Basically the same line along which I wrote my I-Day post this week. Let’s say it together: Happy Interdependence Day! Let’s unf*ck America!

An old man walking… (if it doesn’t display for you, try this link (oh, the eternal trouble with Facebook videos…!)):

(Note: if the video linked above gets deleted, you may search the Internet for the title “#BernieSanders @ #Warrens 4th of July parade in Vermont” and pray since this is a Facebook video.)

Comment: Those kinds of clips are very moving for me. A thought that comes to mind, besides gratefulness for Bernie’s impact on public debate, is that most of us are ignored to the extent of becoming invisible when we reach this age, and very surprised how bad life then becomes for most of us captivated in aching withering old bodies and failing minds with no preparation for it by our society or ourselves, as we were busy all our lives struggling to survive within a system of exploitation and oppression.
